DSC_0596 (1)Baby, it’s cold outside!  If the current chilly weather weren’t enough, snow is on the way as are record cold temperatures.

Temperatures in the United States will plunge to record lows in many areas with the Plains, Midwest, South, and East Coast getting the coldest air so far this season. Cities and towns in the Rockies, Northern Plains, and upper Midwest reported temperatures below 0° F (-18° C) on Saturday.

Meanwhile, snow is expected from the Plains to the Midwest and Northeast by early next week and it could reach as far south as Tennessee.

The National Weather Service has issued a number of winter weather watches and warnings for the affected areas.

Expect hazardous driving conditions due to snow and ice in much of the country.  If your auto has summer tires and you haven’t already mounted winter tires, remember that summer tires lose their adhesion at 42° F (6° C) and are extremely dangerous in wintry conditions.  Many European countries mandate the use of winter tires from November through April.
